The first humans to lay eyes on the Telluride Valley were probably Native American hunting parties. Next came white surveyors and then gold miners, who were succeeded by generations of rugged western pioneers (plus the occasional outlaw), and eventually a thriving tourist economy based on the white gold of skiing.
